VIATechnik was contracted to develop a virtual reality experience that would help acclimate children to courtroom testimony procedures. Many children under the care of the AWAKE advocacy group have experienced debilitating trauma. Testifying in court against their offender is a daunting experience, leading to many failed convictions and unmet justice. The goal of the virtual reality app is to use VR’s immersiveness to acclimate these children to the courtroom environment and expose them early on to all of the stress and uncertainty that accompanies a testimony procedure–hopefully leading to higher conviction rates of the perpetrators.
The first phase of this app creation was building a photorealistic replica of the exact courtrooms. VIATechnik took point cloud scan data as a base reference and built a 3D environment on top inside Unreal Engine 5. I optimized the scene to work performantly with PC and mobile VR.
